DC To DC Journal

Welcome to my Campaign

Thank you so much for stopping by my campaign web site!  Things are ever evolving, so be sure to check back often for updates.

It has been my good fortune to be part of a military family.  My father served in WWII, my brother is retired Navy, my husband served in the USAF, and our 2 younger sons are currently serving.

My career background has focused on family issues, mediation and education.  From early childhood, I was taught the importance of volunteerism  whether it was at school, church or part of our community.  I have served in a governmental capacity both locally and regionally.  All of these things allow me to offer my candidacy with a full complement of unique capabilities.  I am proud to be a strong, conservative proven leader that believes in and defends the sanctity of life, our constitutional rights and the desire to have a government that gets back to the basics of what it is intended to be.

Using our Talents, Treasures and Gifts in Determined Pursuit

With 2012 just right around the corner, we have limited time to gather donations before the end of this quarter.  Please visit https://secure.piryx.com/donate/WrBgbh1i/Dianne-Costa-for-Congress before midnight on the 31st to invest in Dianne Costa for US Congress.  I am willing to do the hard work it takes to be your voice in Washington.  I need your financial support to help get me there!  No amount is too small – it takes all of us pulling together to get the job done.

Christmas Message

As we each celebrate the holiday season in our own unique, traditional way, I am reminded daily of the power of “Choice”. We can choose to embrace a spirit of gratefulness and in doing so, share our abundance with those less fortunate.  We can choose to become more involved in the world around us, and in doing so, make a difference for those who must carry on when we are long gone.  We can choose to reject the notion that mediocrity is good enough, and in doing so, strive to be the exceptional America that many have given their lives to protect.

I pray that each person reading this will take even one small moment to reach out their hand…smile at a stranger…speak an encouraging word to a child…thank the elderly for the gift of their wisdom… and perhaps we will realize the true Spirit of Christmas is not a day we celebrate once a year, but a life style we model each and every day.

Bless you all as we celebrate Christ’s birth and move into a New Year.

“Christmas is a necessity.  There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves.”

Statement on Drought and Wildfires Affecting CD-25 and the Rest of Texas

Our great state of Texas and the counties making up Texas congressional District 25 (CD-25) are confronted with wildfires or the threat of wildfires as a result of the extreme drought conditions our state is facing. State and Federal authorities are working to bring the situation under control and provide relief to those affected.

This is a time for Texans to be vigilant about the threat of wildfires wherever we are. Just in areas within our own Congressional District 25, we have already seen 67 homes destroyed in Pedernales Bend (Spicewood) in Travis County; 35 homes destroyed and over 1000 homes evacuated in Steiner Ranch in Travis County; and seven homes lost in Lake Whitney in Hill County.

Jobs Report Shows Zero Net Jobs For Month of August, Democrats Continue to Defend Obama

Remember the excuses kids would give when they did not have their homework? Or the excuses given when stopped by a police officer for speeding? Endless, right? Well we have a new role model for excuses: Obama, regarding last Friday’s bomb report showing zero net jobs created in August.

It is the first time since February 1945 that the economy has had a “monthly net job change of zero.”

What did our commander in Chief have to say about the report? “Bad luck”. Seriously Mr. President? So if luck plays such an important role, why even address the issue this Thursday? Let’s just continue to fly by the seat of our pants like with the stimulus spending spree and see what kind of “luck” we get this time around. Suddenly a man of many words has no comment.

Out and About in District 25

Last week, my team and I were on the road with campaign volunteers touring Congressional District 25. The newly redrawn District 25 stretches from Hays County all the way up along Route 281 to Tarrant County and encompasses all or portions of 13 counties (Hays, Travis, Burnet, Lampasas, Coryell, Bell, Hamilton, Bosque, Erath, Somervell, Hill, Johnson, and Tarrant). I had such a wonderful time getting to know the residents of Congressional District 25 and learning more about the issues that are important to them. As a property owner within CD 25, these issues hit close to home for my family as well.

Our first stop was in Alvarado, a city in Johnson County. I met with Arrdeen Vaughan and had a delightful visit.

Farmers and Ranchers Face $5.2B Losses in Texas Drought

The historic Texas drought has led to a record $5.2 billion in agricultural losses, making it the most costly drought on record say Texas AgriLife Extension Service economists.  The losses faced by farmers and ranchers, by commodity, include: livestock ($2.06B), lost hay production ($750M), cotton ($1.8B), corn ($327M), wheat ($243M), sorghum ($63M).

I've been hearing from farmers and ranchers throughout Texas CD-25 about how critical this issue is.  Will this be another example of Washington, D.C. ignoring the state of Texas, as with

Applying Lean Six Sigma to the Federal Government

At the Iowa presidential debate last Thursday night, Newt Gingrich said that (the federal government should apply lean Six Sigma principles to government). For those who are not familiar with Six Sigma, it is best described as a methodology that provides businesses with the tools to improve the capability of their business processes. This increase in performance and decrease in process variation leads to defect reduction and vast improvement in profits, employee morale and quality of product.

The goal of Six Sigma is to eliminate variability, defects and waste that undermine customer loyalty. Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving towards six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process -- from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.

On the appeals court ruling that Obamacare individual mandate is unconstitutional

The 11th Circuit has found that Obamacare's mandate to force Americans to purchase health insurance is unconstitutional.  So this was rocket science? This is how Obama began his presidency and it has gone down hill from there. The next thing to go down hill is Obama and all his goonies in 2012.

The recent ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit upholding that the federal health care law's individual mandate violates the U.S. Constitution is an important ruling for our freedom and for limiting government.

Candidate Dianne Costa For Texas CD-25

With great humility and excitement I am pleased to announce that I filed on July 27th to run in the 25th Congressional District of Texas. The newly redrawn District 25 encompasses all or portions of 13 counties (Hays, Travis, Burnet, Lampasas, Coryell, Bell, Hamilton, Bosque, Erath, Somervell, Hill, Johnson, and Tarrant). As your next Republican Congresswoman representing the great State of Texas in Washington D.C., I will work with my constituents to recapture our exceptional America! As a proven leader in Municipal government, the government closest to the people, I had the awesome responsibility as Mayor to bring transparent, accountable governance.

By maintaining a balanced budget our citizens were insured that they could expect of their city government the same basic processes that we are all required to follow in our own businesses and households.  When sent to Washington I will demand that the overspending be put to an end, that there be caps on our spending, supporting a sustainable fiscal path. I will vehemently defend a constitutional amendment of balancing the budget.
